It’s important for you to drink┬áplenty of fluids each day. Water helps you digest food, absorb nutrients from food, and then get rid of the unused waste.

There are lots of beverage choices today. But, water is very important because it replenishes you fluids and helps with every reaction process that takes place within the body.

Other good beverage choices are unsweetened tea, low-fat or fat-free milk, and 100% fruit juice. Although you should get most of your fruit from whole fruit and not fruit juices.

With age, you might lose some of your sense of thirst. This may be due to certain medications that you are taking or a change in lifestyle. It may take more energy for you to get up and refill water glasses, or get up and use the bathroom frequently. Despite these hardships, it’s vital that you continue to drink plenty of fluids.

Pay attention to what medications you are taking. Some medicines might make it even more important for you to have plenty of fluids. Drink a full glass of water if you need to take a pill.

Have a glass of water before you exercise or go outside – even just to garden or walk. Remember, water is a good way to add fluids to your daily routine without adding calories.

To help limit your calorie intake and to stay healthy, limit soft drinks and sports drinks that are high in added sugars. They are empty calories. Alcoholic beverages also give you calories without nutrients.

Remember, water is always the best choice. Most nutritionists recommend at least six glasses of water today. If you can drink eight glasses of water, you’re a rock star!
